Three non-Pixel phones can now install Android 13 Developer Preview

Posted on May 12, 2022 by admin

Until today, you had to have a Pixel 4 or higher to install the Android 13 Developer Preview and the subsequent Beta 1 release. But as of today, Google allows some non-Pixel handsets to install the Android 13 Developer Preview. Three models from China’s BBK Electronics, including select handsets from Oppo, Realme and OnePlus, can now download the Developer Preview.

These phones are the OnePlus 10 Pro, the Oppo Find X5 Pro and the Realme GT 2 Pro† Click on the link on each phone for the instructions to follow. warnings? We have a few. To install the Android 13 Developer Preview, you need to flash a ROM on your phone and erase your phone to do this. And as we always point out, there’s always a chance you’ll find some of the important features you rely on every day if you’re planning to update your daily driver.

Android 13 Developer Preview can now be installed on several BBK Electronics models, including the Realme GT 2 Pro

For example, your phone’s battery life will definitely take a dent if the Developer Preview is installed and that’s definitely a concern. As we mentioned, in order to participate in the Developer Preview with one of these non-Pixel phones, the user needs to flash the appropriate files. If you’ve never flashed software on your handset, you run the risk of having your device blocked.

Many apps, Google’s own and third-party variants, may have too many Developer Preview bugs to work properly, so before you go ahead and decide to flash the ROM, keep these caveats in mind. In addition, each of the three models has previously known issues. For the Oppo Find X5 Pro these are:

  1. Photos taken with the front camera may look abnormal.
  2. The retouch effect may not be displayed after adjusting Retouch in the PORTRAIT mode of the rear camera and taking pictures.
  3. The camera may crash when taking pictures in a dark environment.
  4. The compass may not display latitude and longitude.

Known issues for Android 13 Developer Preview on the Realme GT 2 Pro include:

  1. During the upgrade, all user data will be erased.
  2. The automatic timing function is abnormal and manual timing is required.
  3. Some system functions are not available.
  4. Some of the interface screen may look less than desirable.
  5. Some applications may not work properly or may not be fully functional.
  6. The system may have stability issues.

Finally, the known issues for the OnePlus 10 Pro are:

  1. All data will be erased while flashing the build or rolling to Android 12.
  2. Some system stability and performance issues.
  3. Cannot open shelf.
  4. Unable to move the documents in My Files.
  5. Some apps may not work as expected.
  6. Unable to record voice to active Voice wake up on boot navigation page.
  7. Some ORoaming features may not work as expected.

If you don’t want to flash your phone or fix bugs, Android 13 is expected to be released as early as August.

While the Developer Preview is believed to be based on the Android 13 Beta 1 release for Pixel phones, it won’t be as user-friendly as the Android 13 Beta 1 release recently distributed to Pixel 4 users and later.

If you’re familiar with this process, or don’t mind taking on a big challenge, you can decide to go for it. Honestly, it’s best to wait for the final version of Android 13 to be released.
