Two minute review
The SIHOO M90D is an ergonomic office chair from the Chinese office furniture maker SIHOO that was founded in 2011 but only started selling its products abroad in 2018. The company has since built a lot of momentum and now sells a wide variety of office chairs on its website and on Amazon. While the model we tested has a mesh backrest and padded seat cushion, SIHOO also sells a version of this chair with the same design with a mesh seat cushion.
Ergonomics is the main focus of this chair and even the box it comes in has a diagram showing how to sit in it correctly to avoid undue strain on your back. The best feature of the SIHOO M90D is the adaptive lumbar support that adjusts itself to ensure your lower back is supported during use. Elsewhere, the mesh back keeps you cool while you work, and the armrests swivel in or out. By pulling out a lever on the side, you can lean back as you push it down to raise or lower the seat. While you can save a few bucks on a budget model instead, the SIHOO M90D gives you the experience of sitting in a premium office chair for just a little more without breaking the bank.
SIHOO M90D: prices and availability
The SIHOO M90D is available at the time of writing for $359 on the company’s website, but it can also be purchased at Amazon for $369 with a $29 coupon, bringing the price to $340. However, Amazon only offers this office chair in black and gray, while in addition to black and gray, a two-tone red option (red backrest and headrest with black seat) is available on SIHOO’s website.
If you like the design and features of the SIHOO M90D, but prefer an office chair with a mesh seat and a mesh back, such as the X-chair X2The SIHOO M90C might be what you’re looking for, and it’s even a few bucks cheaper at $356. It’s worth noting, though, that the SIHOO M90C is only available in black and gray.
SIHOO M90D: design and build quality
The mesh backrest of the SIHOO M90D immediately draws your attention because SIHOO decided to add a pattern to it. While some may prefer a non-patterned mesh back, this design decision is definitely unique to this chair, as we’ve seen something similar from other office furniture makers.
While the back of the SIHOO M90D is made of mesh, the back of the chair is made of hard plastic. The center of the seat frame features a small SIHOO logo in red and there are also gray accents on either side of the back plate.
At the bottom left of the seat you will find a lever that allows you to raise and lower the seat by turning it forward. However, pulling the lever out allows you to recline in the seat as you push it in and lock the seat in place. Meanwhile, the knob in the center can be tightened or loosened to make it easier or harder to recline in the seat.
Although the armrests of the SIHOO M90D are black on the top and sides, you can see a bit of silver metal on the bottom. At the same time, you can see the gray of the back plate that connects the back to the seat cushion from the side.
The base of the SIHOO M90D is made of metal and the silver color provides a nice contrast with the black seat cushion, the armrests and the backrest. This same silver extends to the five 2.5-inch caster wheels, and the gas cylinder that raises or lowers the seat is also silver.
SIHOO M90D: Setup and mounting
The SIHOO M90D has been shipped to: Mujahid Tricks Pro arrived for review in a single large brown box with a diagram showing you the correct way to sit in an ergonomic position and we thought this was a nice touch.
Once unpacked, you were left with five 2.5-inch caster wheels, the silver base, a headrest, a pair of armrests, the backrests, a gas bottle, a lever mechanism, a seat cushion, an instruction manual and all the bolts needed to assemble the chair. † We also appreciated how SIHOO included a pair of white gloves to wear while assembling the seat to avoid getting grease from the gas bottle on your hands.
Assembling the SIHOO M90D begins by inserting the five castor wheels into the metal base and then inserting the gas bottle into the hole in the center.
From here you will need to use three bolts on each side to secure both armrests to the seat cushion. You will then need to use three more bolts to secure the lever mechanism in the center of the bottom of the seat cushion.
Once the armrests and lever mechanism are attached to the seat cushion, you need to attach the backrest to it with three bolts.
Next, you need to attach the seat cushion and backrest to the base by aligning the hole on the bottom of the seat cushion with the gas cylinder.
To complete the assembly of the SIHOO M90D, simply insert the headrest into the slot on the back of the backrest and you are done.
SIHOO M90D: in use and comfort
After assembling the SIHOO M90D, we sat down in the chair and adjusted everything to our liking. First, we lowered the seat so that our feet were resting on the floor, and then we pulled the armrest armrests all the way forward. Next, we lifted the back of the chair so that the adaptive lumbar support was right in the middle of the underside of our backs. We have also loosened the knob at the bottom of the seat, so that we can lean back more easily.
While testing the SIHOO M90D, we found the seat quite comfortable and the adaptive lumbar support allowed it to be used for long stretches at a time. The firmness of the seat cushion was another plus, but we also liked that it was a little soft. The caster wheels did their job well and rolling the seat was easy on our hardwood floors.
The arm pads at the top of each armrest can be raised or lowered and pushed forward or back depending on your preference. However, they can also be tilted outwards if you prefer to have your arms wider at rest.
Should I buy the SIHOO M90D?
The Branch Ergonomic Chair from Branch Furniture is slightly cheaper than the SIHOO M90D and is available in light blue in addition to black and gray. It has a striking design thanks to the white frame, a lot of adjustability and fits well with the Stand desk with tak† However, it does not come with a headrest nor is there an option to add one.
The Vari office chair is another alternative to the SIHOO M90D that is slightly more expensive if you opt for the configuration that comes with a headrest. However, Vari offers several variations of this chair depending on the size of your budget. Likewise, it fits nicely with the Vari electric standing desk or even the new, cheaper one Vari Essential electric standing deskI
