Apple today released iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5. The updates are available for iPhone 6s and later, all iPad Pro models, iPad Air 2 and later, iPad fifth generation and later, iPad mini 4 and later, and iPod touch seventh generation.
With the update, users will notice a number of buttons (“Requests” and “Send”) that have been added to the Apple Wallet that allow users to request or send money more quickly via Messages using the Apple Cash card. Note that Apple Pay is now called “Apple Cash” in the Messages app. The physical Apple Card is now referred to as the “Titanium Card” in the Wallet app.
To prevent podcasts from taking up all of your iPhone’s storage space, the update allows you to limit the number of podcast episodes on your iPhone and delete older episodes automatically. Wi-Fi signal bars have been added in the Home app to let you know that your HomePod is connected to the app.
In iPadOS 15.5, the beta label has been removed from Universal Control, making the feature official and bug-free. With Universal Controls, you can use just one mouse, trackpad, and keyboard across multiple devices, such as iPads and Macs.

Perhaps the most interesting change in iOS 15.5 is that it includes “External Link Account Entitlement” for reader apps. These are apps that deliver digital content in formats such as magazines, newspapers, books, audio, music, and video. Following the update, developers offering reader apps on the App Store will have the option to link subscribers to a third-party website to create an account outside of Apple’s in-app payment system.
