Leaker ShrimpApplePro, who first reported on the new design of the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max, today shared images and a video of an iPhone 14 Pro Max 3D-printed dummy unit. It’s supposedly based on specs Apple sent to accessory makers and gives us an idea of the changes the new model will bring.
While we’ve seen mock-up units from the iPhone 14 series before, this is the first time we’ll see one with the pill and pinhole cutouts that will replace the notch on the Pro models. As recent reports have pointed out, the cutouts, which will accommodate the front camera and Face ID technology, will be slightly larger than we’re used to seeing.
The cutouts of the iPhone 14 Pro Max appear larger than most users would like
It appears that Apple only removed the dead area around the notch elements and did not reduce the size of the individual components.
Another thing that this dummy unit seems to have revealed is that the iPhone 14 Pro Max has a larger aspect ratio than the 13 Pro Max. This is in line with reports and images that said the new phone could be bigger to accommodate the new design on the front. Apparently the ratio has changed from 19.5:9 to 20:9. This also seems to explain why the iPhone 14 Pro Max has differently shaped bezels.
The images also confirm rumors that the iPhone 14 Pro Max would have a larger camera bump. The dimensions have reportedly been increased to make way for a new 48MP camera that will replace the 12MP primary sensor. This is why the iPhone 13 Pro Max case won’t fit inside the 14 Pro Max dummy, even though the phone will likely have the same 6.7-inch screen size as its predecessor.
Although it is not clear in the images, the phone may have thinner bezels than the 2021 variant. That’s about all the expected design changes.
There are also rumors that Pro models will get the faster A16 Bionic chip which will be based on a more advanced half-node and this should theoretically make them faster and more energy efficient.
The entire lineup is expected to be equipped with a better front camera and also tipped to send emergency messages via satellite networks. With these changes, they can make the best aircraft of 2022. As you may have already heard, the 5.4-inch iPhone 13 mini will reportedly be replaced by a 6.7-inch Max model.
Apple was expected to launch new phones in September, but given the current lockdown situation in China that has hit the largest iPhone assembler, a delay cannot be ruled out.
