Motorola unveils world’s first 200MP camera phone in July

Posted on May 24, 2022 by admin

Even though it’s still spring, it seems Motorola is already in a giving mood and recently joined forces with T-Mobile (and Metro by T-Mobile) to take away the brand’s hot new 5G mid-ranger for free. and then give us early access to a key selling point of two very exciting upcoming devices.

Shortly after the confirmation of the state-of-the-art processor, Chen Jin, general manager of Lenovo’s Chinese Mobile Business Group, took to the same microblogging platform to tease the July arrival of a “new benchmark for visual experience not limited to parameters.”

It’s the… opening limit!

As cryptic as that may sound, it’s actually not incredibly difficult to guess exactly what to expect here. That’s because the top Lenovo exec is also ready to confirm that this (not so) mysterious device will “open the era of mobile photography with 200 million pixels”.

This may or may not be the back of a real Frontier prototype.

This absolute monster is likely to join the fast-growing (and increasingly impressive) Motorola Edge family rather than go official under the Frontier label, and today’s Weibo teaser pretty much guarantees a July launch, at least in China.

Unsurprisingly, many (global) brands are already committed to the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 “platform”, including Xiaomi, OnePlus, Oppo, Vivo, Realme and perhaps most notably Samsung, which is almost certainly planning the Galaxy. Z Flip 4 launch. and Z Fold 4 is faster than the S22 series.

More than just an impressive sounding camera

Samsung just happens to be the manufacturer of the insane-sounding 200MP Isocell sensor that’s expected to make its commercial debut on Motorola’s next-gen flagship, though the world’s number one smartphone seller may be planning to fit. a more advanced version of that lens on the 2023 Galaxy S23 Ultra.

Since a higher megapixel count doesn’t always translate into a superior real-world photo experience, shutterbugs might not want to get too excited about the “Frontier”… just yet.

The Frontier essentially sounds like a Motorola Edge Plus (2022) on steroids. Motorola unveils world's first 200MP camera phone in July

The Frontier essentially sounds like a Motorola Edge Plus (2022) on steroids.

Of course, there are plenty of other great things to look forward to on this ultra-high-end device that has been leaked repeatedly and rigorously lately, from an extra curvy design with a silky-smooth 144Hz OLED display in tow to a 60MP front-facing shooter and a 4,500mAh battery equipped with, get this, insanely fast 125W wired charging and insanely fast 50W wireless charging technology.

If an older rumor that hasn’t been confirmed in a while also materializes, the Frontier’s massive 200MP rear camera will be joined by a 50MP ultra-wide-angle sensor and a 12MP telephoto lens to create possibly one of the most versatile and all-round powerful mobile imaging systems. available in 2022.

From all this, it seems pretty clear that Motorola wants the best smartphone vendors in the world (and in the US) to get a run for their money in more than the mid-range segment. Let’s hope the price will be right too, which is never a guarantee when all the leakers seem to avoid a firm prediction on that front.
