Microsoft Teams on Windows 11 and Windows 10 is now significantly faster

Posted on June 4, 2022 by admin

After the release of Windows 11 in 2021, Microsoft has been actively working on a redesigned and completely rebuilt version of Microsoft Teams for the next generation of devices. The new Teams experience is apparently called “Microsoft Teams 2.0” and is available to users with a personal account on Windows 11 devices.

The main difference between the old Teams client and the new Teams is the fact that Teams 2.0 is not based on Electron and that Microsoft uses embedded web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript on top of the Chromium engine for Teams 2.0. At the same time, Microsoft has also made significant improvements to the Teams business/desktop app.

The original Microsoft Teams client for Windows 11 and Windows 10 is now significantly faster on the desktop platforms, thanks to a number of improvements released in recent months. This is according to the shared stats based on the 95th percentile stats.

Microsoft says it wanted to consider users on low-end devices and low-bandwidth networks, so the report only focuses on the 95th percentile of all desktop users in the world. This means that 95 percent of the time the experience would be better than what the report highlights.

Teams is now much faster on Windows

After the recent updates, Microsoft Teams now loads pages faster than before. The latency has improved by 11.4% when users scroll through the chat list. On the other hand, scrolling within the channel list is now 12.1% faster.

The compose window has been updated to load 63% faster, so you can start typing right away.

Here’s a list of the remaining performance improvements:

  • The time to switch channels and open a new chat window has been drastically reduced. It’s 25% faster.
  • The ability for teams to switch between threads in the activity feed is now 17.4%.
  • Switching between chat threads has been improved by 3.1%.

Microsoft has officially confirmed that more improvements are on the way, but they can’t share the timeline at the moment.

“More improvements are coming for the enterprise version, including bigger architecture improvements, although I can’t share the timeline at this time,” the company said.
