How to Link to a Timestamp in a Google Drive Video

Posted on April 25, 2022 by admin

Want your Google Drive video to play at a specific time when people open the video link? If so, it’s easy to create timestamp links for your videos hosted on this service. Here’s how to do that.

To create a custom link that will play your Google Drive video at the specified time, you don’t need a third-party app. You just need to add a parameter to the URL of the video, and that link will then play the video at your chosen point.

Link to a specific position in a Google Drive video

To generate a link for your video, first fire up Google Drive on your computer and locate your video file.

Right click on your video and choose “Get Link” from the menu.

Select "Get link" from the menu.

In the box that opens, grab the link of your video by clicking ‘Copy Link’.

Click "Copy link" in the box.

Open a new tab in your web browser and paste the link of your video there. Do not press Enter yet.

Your video link should look something like this:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZWQN93aQ2lniE3RTe-sdL1VXrbFHLcUL/view?usp=sharing

Delete everything that appears after this link view?† Then add the . please t parameter with the time you want your video to play. For example, if you want your link to play your video after 1 minute and 25 seconds, your resulting link will look like this:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ZWQN93aQ2lniE3RTe-sdL1VXrbFHLcUL/view?t=1m25s

In the link above, m stands for minutes and s for seconds. To specify the hour, use hI

Open the link and you will see that Google Drive will play your video at the specified time. You can now share this link with others so that they can also watch your video at your chosen starting point. Make sure you’ve given others access to your video.

And that’s how you let yourself and others quickly jump to a certain point in your video without manually skipping parts of it. Very handy!
