Enable Nightlight on Windows 11

Posted on April 8, 2022 by admin

Studies show that bluish light in the evening can affect your ability to fall asleep easily. Windows 11 includes a feature called “Night Light” that allows you to switch your screen to a more yellowish shade to counteract those potential effects. Here’s how to enable it.

Enable and configure nightlight in Settings

There are several ways to enable Night Light. If you want to enable it with an automatic schedule, it’s good to visit the Windows Settings app. To do this, open Settings by right-clicking the Start menu and selecting “Settings.” Or you can press Windows+i on your keyboard.

In Windows 11, right-click the Start button and select "Settings."

In Settings, navigate to System > Display.

In Settings, click "System," then select "Display."

In Display Settings, find the “Brightness and Color” section and toggle the switch next to “Nightlight” to the “On” position.

Put the switch next to "night light" until "On."

You can also click the little arrow next to the switch and you’ll be taken to another page where you can change the strength of Night Light’s yellowing effect with a slider. You can also set Night Light to turn on and off automatically at sunrise or sunset, or schedule specific hours for Night Light to turn on or off automatically.

Change night light options in Windows settings.

Your changes are saved automatically. Once you’re done configuring Night Light, close Settings and you’re all set. If you want to manually enable and disable it in the future, there is a faster way to do it, which we’ll discuss below.

Enable Night Light via Quick Settings

You can also toggle Night Lights on and off in Windows 11’s Quick Settings menu. To do this, first open the Quick Settings menu by clicking the sound or Wi-Fi icon in the lower-right corner of your taskbar.

In Windows 11, click the Quick Settings taskbar button.

When the Quick Settings menu opens, you may not see a Nightlight button by default. If so, you’ll need to add it manually. Click the pencil icon in the lower right corner of the menu.

Then click ‘Add’ and choose ‘Nightlight’ from the menu that appears.

In Windows 11 Quick Settings, click "Add," then select "night light."

After that, click “Done” and you will see the “Nightlight” button in your Quick Settings menu. From now on, whenever you want to quickly activate or deactivate Night Light, just open the Quick Settings menu and click (or tap) that button.

In Windows 11 Quick Settings, click "night light."

Good luck – we hope you get a good night’s sleep!
