Supply chain issues across China have left many major Apple devices experiencing delays of weeks and months, but one upcoming product unlikely to be affected by these issues is the AirPods Pro 2.
Currently, AirPods Pro are produced in both China and Vietnam, but Kuo clearly indicates that Apple will become more dependent on the Vietnamese manufacturers this year.
You may also have heard rumors that Apple is making the switch to a USB-C port on the AirPods. Well, that’s not happening this year, according to Kuo, and instead Apple will stick with Lightning for the AirPods Pro 2.
Earlier this month, Kuo also reported that Apple is testing the switch to a USB-C connection on the iPhone 15 series, which is expected to be released late next year. He explained that when that switch happens, we can expect other Apple products and accessories, including AirPods, to make the switch to USB-C as well.
AirPods 2 improvements
The first-generation AirPods Pro was released in Fall 2019 for an introductory price of $250, and this new generation is expected to come nearly three years after the original. The original Pros had incredible noise cancellation, which is one of the very best on a truly wireless set of buttons so far. They also had improved microphone quality, making them particularly suitable for video calls and conferences.
The second generation is rumored to improve on Active Noise Cancellation technology, and they may even come with a new voiceless design, as well as Lossless Audio support and new health and fitness tracking capabilities.
AirPods Pro on the left vs AirPods on the right
Kuo also tweeted that Apple can move production of the wireless headphones to Vietnam thanks to its less complicated supply chain. However, he warns that the company is still testing and manufacturing AirPods Pro 2, a process known as the introduction of new production (NPI), in China, which is hindering faster transfers of production to Vietnam. †
On the other hand, the companies that make AirPods such as Luxshare ICT and Goertek can take advantage of setting up offices in Vietnam and reduce geopolitical risks.
